10 Ways Dohn Construction, Inc. Has Made a Difference in Northern Colorado

Over the past 26 years, Dohn Construction, Inc. (DCI) has provided influential leadership that has  transformed Fort Collins into something outstanding. As a business that has actively supported, empowered, and developed Northern Colorado communities, they have supplied more than just construction services: they have built a legacy of lasting memories and outstanding customer service for locals. With excellent quality, professionalism, and passion, Fort Collins can attribute much of its charm and extraordinary  development to the creative minds that have gathered through DCI. With a celebratory timeline below, We R Foco is honoring and highlighting a selection of their most momentous projects that have bettered our communities, and most importantly, our homes.


  1. 1992. DCI officially became a business in the state of Colorado. After being inspired to start their own construction company, Doug and Connie Dohn ran their business at home in their spare bedroom. They wanted to spend more time with family!
  1. 1997. DCI hired their most tenured employee, Bob Adleman. Bob has been a project superintendent with the Dohn family for 21 years. He most recently helped complete the Union on Plum Apartments, and is currently overseeing the Union on Elizabeth Apartments (which is the company’s largest project yet).
  1. 2000. Due to company growth and staff increases, DCI built and moved into its current office location on Midpoint Drive in Fort Collins. While continuing to grow, they began some high-profile jobs including: a private residence in Old Town that is now the CSU President’s House and the American Eagle Distribution Center.
  1. 2008. The DCI team responded to the tragic aftermath of the Windsor tornado by taking on many new projects in the town..  With teamwork, they were able to help many former clients and residents repair their homes and businesses that had been damaged by the storm.
  1. 2008. Completed in August 2008, DCI built Bethke Elementary School in Timnath, Colorado. A two-story and 63,000 square foot school, Bethke was the first in the nation to ever achieve a certification for the LEED® for Schools Gold rating. The school was made with 20% of its materials sourced regionally.
  1. 2008. The DCI team organized the company’s first charity golf tournament. This annual tournament is going on its  ninth year, and each year it picks a local charity as a fundraising benefactor. Past participating charities include: Partners Mentoring Youth, Larimer and Weld County Food Banks, Boys and Girls Clubs, Hearts and Horses, ChildSafe, and The Matthews House. With the goal of raising $20,000 during each tournament, DCI has donated over $170,000 throughout the years with the help of generous participants and sponsors.
  1. 2008. DCI won the Torch Award for Business Ethics from the Better Business Bureau. The Torch Award for Ethics honors companies whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal character and ensure that their business practices meet the highest standard of ethics.
  1. 2009. DCI was awarded their first project at Colorado State University: The College of Business Rockwell Hall (a LEED® Gold Building). Since this project was completed, DCI has completed over 20 additional projects for CSU.
  1. 2017. Connie Dohn, Chief Financial Officer and Co-Founder, was selected as a BizWest 2017 Northern Colorado Woman of Distinction for her work in real estate, construction, and development. With 23% of the DCI staff being women, and 3 of their 6 leadership members being women, DCI actively works to encourage, empower, and inspire females to join the construction industry.
  1. 2017. DCI completed one of its largest projects to date: designing and building Uncommon student housing in downtown Fort Collins.
