Warren Miller Fort Collins

Outpost Sunsport brings Warren Miller’s latest film to Fort Collins

“It’s our search for freedom, ” he said. “It’s what it’s all about — man’s instinctive search for freedom.”

Colorado is home to some of the best places in the world to ski or snowboard. Although the city of Fort Collins may be a bit more removed from the slopes, we still have quite a population that makes the trek every weekend or family holiday to enjoy all the mountains have to offer. Warren Miller once summed up in a 2008 speech, what had led him — as well as ski bums and heads of state and corporations — to head for the mountains.

“It’s our search for freedom, ” he said. “It’s what it’s all about — man’s instinctive search for freedom.”

During Warren Miller’s life he could easily be credited with turning winter sports from a niche pursuit to a widely popular pastime and a multibillion-dollar industry. His films helped to inspire generations to head to the mountains and encourage them to find their own sense of freedom while scaling mountain tops.

Striking a very hard cord for many, Warren Miller passed away in January at the age of 93. During his career Warren Miller, and later Warren Miller Entertainment, had continued producing yearly season openers that feature some of the world’s best winter athletes, remote locations and new filming styles. This will be an incredibly special year as the entire ski and snowboard industry pays tribute to this influential man.

For the 36th year in a row,  Outpost Sunsport, a locally owned and operated ski and snowboard shop, is thrilled to be the main sponsor in northern Colorado helping to bring the Warren Miller film to The Fort Collins Lincoln Center.

This year, “Face of Winter,” the 69th installment from Warren Miller Entertainment presented by Volkswagen, will bring new and veteran athletes together to pay tribute to the man who started it all. Watch as the world’s best skiers and riders cover ground in some of the most legendary destinations to honor a face that launched a thousand quips and got us all started on this long, crazy ride. The Face of Winter travels the globe by land, air and sea, exploring the ties that bind ski culture while also paying tribute to the legend himself – Warren Miller.

Attendees will receive ample discounts for lift tickets to a variety of ski resorts, coupons to Outpost Sunsport to get some fresh new gear for the season, and an opportunity to win a variety of ski apparel, including helmets, goggles, gloves and more!

Special thank you to this year’s sponsors including The Coloradoan, Townsquare Media, The Windsor Beacon, The Rocky Mountain Collegian, Volkswagon, Orthopedic Center of the Rockies, Bank of Colorado and Odell Brewing Company!
