ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:   $42,487.00 - 63,730.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

SUMMARY

Rangers conduct daily patrols of parks, trails, cemeteries, recreation areas, and other areas assigned to Parks Department Staff to provide visitor and staff safety, assistance and education while protecting park property.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

 

1.  Performs patrol, municipal code enforcement, visitor education, and resource protection on City Parks and Recreational Trails including:

  • Municipal code enforcement in parks, trails and recreation areas, including issuing warnings or citations to violators.
  • Interacting with the public by providing recreation and safety information.
  • Conducting foot and bike patrol on properties to monitor recreation activities and ensure visitor safety and resource protection.
  • Recognizing law enforcement issues requiring the assistance of a Police officer.
  • Communicating and coordinating with local law enforcement.
  • Coordinating emergency response including administration of first aid.
  • Testifying in court in support of citations issued.
  • Maintaining public contacts records, producing incident and police reports, and other general reports.
  • Coordinating with parks management staff.
  • Speaking to various public groups about the ranger program as assigned.
  • Preparing and providing safety and public contact training to staff, seasonal staff and volunteers.
  • Monitoring and interacting with scheduled park users.
  • Responding to and resolving multi-use conflicts using conflict resolution techniques.
  • Correcting and/or reporting maintenance issues to relevant staff.
  • Performing inspections of park property for unsafe conditions or damage to trails, restrooms or other infrastructure.
  • Entering work time into the Parks Resource Allocation Measurement System (RAM) system.
  • Directing and overseeing the work of volunteers.
  • Monitoring/enforcing Archery Range Fee system for compliance
  • Supporting enforcement of City Code during Park Special Events and other permitted events
  • Performing maintenance to tools, fences, gates, signs, kiosks; trash and snow removal
  • Learning and using unique park scheduling and resource allocation programs.

2.  Performs resources protection and conservation tasks that may include:

  • Monitoring site conditions, performing inspections on visitor use, permitted activities
  • Assisting with visitor information collection.

3.  Performs Park management tasks such as:

  • Monitor/enforce Archery Range Fee system for compliance.
  • Support enforcement of City Code during Park Special Events and other permitted events.
  • Directs and oversees the work of volunteers.
