Cornerstone Home Lending: Home Buying Help with Heart

Cornerstone Home Lending prides itself on helping families find the perfect home. Successfully serving clients is what helps build communities. In 2018 alone, Cornerstone provided residential lending services to more than 950 families and nationally funded 25,000 loans totaling over $7.2 billion dollars. They take pride in serving their customers and communities to the fullest. Giving back is also a large factor in helping to build communities, and Cornerstone makes it a priority.

We were excited to learn more from Cornerstone’s Regional Business Manager, Pam Carrington, about how Cornerstone gives back to the community and ask questions about the home loan process.

We R Foco: What are some of Cornerstone’s favorite ways to give back to the community?

Pam: We are committed to the communities we serve. Programs, such as Hometown Heroes, is a partnership with Colorado State University Athletics. It recognizes a local individual who exemplifies community serving at each home football game. In addition, we also have partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and Neighbor to Neighbor to promote local and affordable housing. We also enjoy sponsoring running events that support the local community.

We R Foco: What are some helpful tips that you have for our readers who might be looking to buy?

Pam: Cornerstone is particularly proud of our support and work with first time homebuyers. Purchasing a home for the first time can be a challenge and our goal is to bring comfort and stability to the uncertainty first time buyers feel.

The greatest challenge is that people don’t think they can qualify for a mortgage, so they don’t try. We start with relationship and knowledge and help our buyers clear up three common myths of the mortgage process:

Myth # 1: You have to have 20% down or else. The fact is that there are many low or no money down programs, with FHA/HUD, guaranteed loans through US Department of Agriculture, Veterans Administration, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and local state and city bond programs.

Myth #2: You have to have perfect credit to get a mortgage. Perfect credit is not a requirement for a mortgage. The buyer’s entire financial picture is considered, including employment and housing history. Buyers may qualify for programs with flexible credit requirements.

Myth # 3: Getting a mortgage is super stressful. Cornerstone can make the process easy. We work closely with homebuyers to make things as effortless as possible. We provide:

● Step by step guidance from applications to closing

● Loan Fly, an application via mobile phones for a fast prequalification

● A secure online borrower portal to upload documents and track the loan status

● Proactive updates and clear communication

● 15 minute closings for loan documents

● On-time closings

● 30 plus years of expertise and records in helping people become homeowners
