In the wake of unprecedented times and uncertainty surrounding the future, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of people in today’s world may need a good pick-me-up or just experience a little more compassion. Although it is easy to see the negative impacts COVID-19 has brought, it is equally as easy to see the positive things that have been created through the pandemic, such as a sense of unity and connectedness between the global healthcare community and the world as a whole. However, being connected also means we can’t ignore those who are in need and have a lack of resources. This is why Giving Tuesday will take place on May 5, 2020 in an emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This new event will be inheld in addition to the Giving Tuesday event that is to take place on December 1, 2020.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide generosity movement that is hoping to unleash the power of people and organizations’ ability to transform the world, with one kind act at a time.  The event is in partnership with Giving Tuesday’s global network of leaders, partners, communities and kind individuals. The event is set to spark an increase in global generosity, community engagement, business/philanthropy activation, and support for nonprofits all around the world.  Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people to heal and connect during this hard time in history and generate a sense of compassion in a world currently plagued by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why Support Giving Tuesday?

Supporting Giving Tuesday this year, on May 5, 2020, is a way to bring some positivity to the world and demonstrate compassion to those in need during this difficult time. The COVID-19 pandemic has left a lot of people out of work and has added a lot of extra stress to peoples lives. So, through participating in Giving Tuesday, any act, no matter how small, adds to the global attempt to bring happiness and hope to those in need.

How can you support Giving Tuesday?

You can support Giving Tuesday in many diverse ways, whether it be helping a neighbor, giving to a cause, sharing a skill, or advocating for a pressing issue. Being primarily focused on giving back to communities and causes in a safe way that allows for social connection and kindness while still practicing proper physical distancing, Giving Tuesday is looking for acts that allow people around the world feel the power of generosity.

The COVID-19 pandemic was unexpected and has changed a lot in how the world operates, yet it doesn’t need to change how people treat each other. So, whether it’s calling a friend who is struggling during this period in time or donating to a charity of your choice, Giving Tuesday is there to encourage any act that demonstrates consideration and kind-heartedness.
